  • Description

Visnews recently filmed Haiti's Presidential Palace in Port-au-Prince. Virtually an armed fortress, squads of hastily enlisted 'volunteers' are taking weapon training exercises every afternoon.
President Francois Duvalier says now he has 25,000 such trainees, who are ready to repel any invaders - from outside the country, or within. As Duvalier's four immediate predecessors were ousted by the army the latter part of his statement reflects his dilemma.
The Cuban freelance force which invaded Panama a week ago laid down its arms and sailed into captivity from Nombre De Dios, Panama, May 1. More than 80 men under the leadership of Cesar Vega, gambler and reputedly bodyguard of one of America's most notorious gangsters, surrendered to a handful of Panama National Guardsmen ending a hunt began after their landing a week ago.
Panama's government has told a delegation from the Organisation of American States, sent to investigate the 'invasion', that danger of new landings by rebel forces from Cuba has not ended. They are convinced that additional armed elements are now travelling by ship to Panama.
