    THE UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL CONTINUED ITS EMERGENCY SESSION ON SUNDAY IN AN EFFORT TO ESTABLISH A CEASE-FIRE IN CYPRUS.

    BY MID AFTERNOON AN ANGLO-AMERICAN RESOLUTION CALLING FOR THE CEASE FIRE WAS ADOPTED BY NINE VOTES IN FAVOUR, NONE AGAINST, AND TWO ABSTENTIONS - RUSSIA AND CZECHOSLOVAKIA.

    INTRODUCING THE RESOLUTION, THE UNITED STATES DELEGATE, MR. ADLAI STEVENSON, SAID:
    EARLIER, MR. SIVERT NIELSEN OF NORWAY, CURRENT PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL, ANNOUNCED THAT HE HAD ADDRESSED AN URGENT APPEAL TO BOTH TURKEY AND GREECE.

    HE READ IT TO THE DELEGATES:
    THIS APPEAL WAS APPROVED WITHOUT OBJECTION.
