  • Description

Six thousand people thronged the Sordal stadium in Oslo to see a warm-up match for the forthcoming world championships when the two North American teams USA and Canada met in a not-so-friendly match. Canada were well on top throughout, generally out-skating and outsmarting their American rivals. Tempers flared at one stage of the game, however, and George Gosseling of Canada and Bill Christian of the U.S. were involved in a fight - first with each other and later with a hot-tempered member of the audience. Russian referee Yakhonin sent off Gosseling for a two-minute penalty --and the crowd promptly gave him 'the bird'. Final score was: Canada United States.
