  • Description

Thirteen new Naafi girls replacing dismissed Greek Cypriot staff threw open the doors (shut for ten days) of the canteen at Nicosia's RAG station November 20, served up expertly eggs, chips, bacon, tea, bustled over washed dishes, stacked dry ones. In short the canteen business was back to normal.

The girls were volunteers, flown out from England Sunday. To make the evening's opening possible the girls had spent all day chasing cobwebs, scrubbing, washing, polishing.

What made the girls fly out to an island of terror, work in a canteen where less than a fortnight ago a terrorist bomb killed two airmen, injured others? They said they wanted "adventure."
