Former United States Ambassador to the United States Nations, Andrew Young, arrived in Kenya on Sunday (16 September) with a party of forty-four U.S. businessmen to discuss increased trade with the United States and American aid for Kenyan industry. Kenya is the fifth stop of Mr Young's seven-nation African tour which he began on September the 8th to stimulate trade links with Africa.
SYNOPSIS: The American mission arrived on Sunday (16 September) with high-ranking officials from more than twenty-five American corporations and representatives of the United States Agency for International Development. (AID)
Mr Young said on arrival that he will be talking with the Kenyan government about economic and political issues, including the situation in Zimbabwe-Rhodesia, Namibia, (South-West Africa) and neighbouring Uganda. He said his business mission has had phenomenal results in Nigeria, Cameroun and the Ivory Coast and he was hoping to expand trade links with Kenya. Mr Young will be flying to Tanzania on Tuesday (18 September) and will visit Senegal before returning home.
