  • Description

Lieutenant Moussa Traore, Mali's Head of State, visited the Elysee Palace in Paris on Wednesday (4 November) and held talks over lunch with President Pompidou. Lieutenant Traore said afterwards that the talks had been on mutual problems.

The Malaian leader was also scheduled to have talks with France's Prime Minister, M. Chaban-Delmas, and Foreign Minister, M. Schumann. The talks are centred on economic and financial relations.

Lieutenant Traore, who is 34, came to power in 1968 after an army coup toppled the regime of President Modibo Keita. The lieutenant was once a non-commissioned officer in the French Army and received a part of his military training in France before returning to his newly independent country to help to create its own army.
