  • Description

Almost 500 students invaded the University of Chicago administration building Thursday (January 30) to protest the firing of a sociology professor.

The students contend that 32-year-old Mrs. Marlene Dixon was fired because of her radical political views and the fact that she is a woman. Mrs. Dixon, however, insists that her situation only triggered the revolt. She said the students are struggling for broader issues.

University officials informed the students that whoever didn't leave a certain time Thursday would be disciplined. The University has refused to call in Chicago police to remove the students who are occupying the building. In earlier demonstrations the University did call in city police.

The students decided Friday (January 31) that they plan to continue their sit-in through the Weekend.
