    TWO DEFENDANTS IN A CAIRO MILITARY COURT YESTERDAY (FRIDAY) SAID CONFESSIONS HAD BEEN WRUNG OUT OF THEM BY TORTURE. ELEVEN EGYPTIANS HAVE PLEADED NOT GUILTY TO CHARGES OF PLOTTING TO OVERTHROW PRESIDENT NASSER'S GOVERNMENT BY FORCE AND SET UP AN EGYPTIAN PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC.

    THE MEN ARE ALLEGED COMMUNISTS AND THE CASE IS BEING HEARD IN THE SUPREME STATE SECURITY COURT. THE HEARINGS ARE NOW GOING ON IN CAMERA.

    AT THE PUBLIC HEARING, THE MEN'S LAWYER SAID THE INTERROGATION HAD BEEN INVALID BECAUSE THEY HAD INVOLVED ILLEGAL TELEPHONE TAPPING. BUT THE JUDGES REJECTED THE PLEA.

    ACCORDING TO THE PROSECUTION, THE DEFENDANTS HAD BEEN ACTIVE BETWEEN 1954 AND JULY LAST YEAR PREPARING A MILITARY COUP. THOSE IN THE DOCK INCLUDE AN ARMY COLONEL, AN EDITOR, A REPORTER, WHO ACCOUNTANTS AND A MALE NURSE.
