Greeks throughout the country celebrated today (March 25th) the 153rd anniversary of the war of Independence against the Turkish rule. In Athens, President of the Republic, General Phaedon Gizikis, attended a special service in Athens Cathedral, in presence of Greek Premier Adamandios Androutsopoulos and members of his Cabinet. The President and the other officials then drove to the Unknown Warrior Tomb platform, where General Gizikis took the salute at an Armed Forces parade. The officials and other officers of NATO and Military Attaches and the Diplomatic Corps, as well as tens of thousands of people watched the parade of Armed Forces as they marched past in strict military discipline. A special feature of the parade were the newly formed heavy artillery units and their equipment, as well as new French armoured acquired recently.
