    THERE WAS ALSO A SPECIAL SERVICE AT THE CATHEDRAL OF ST. MICHEL, IN BRUSSELS, ATTENDED BY THE CONGOLESE CHARGE D'AFFAIRES, COLONEL NZADI, BELGIAN OFFICIAL AND MEMBERS OF THE DIPLOMATIC CORPS.

    AT THE TEMPLE OF KIMBANOUISTE IN MATITE THE CONGOLESE MINISTER OF PUBLIC FUNCTIONS, M. MICHEL COLIN, LED THE CONGREGATION IN PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING.

    AT THE PROTESTANT CHURCH IN KINSHASA M. TSHI SHEHEDI, A COLLEAGUE OF M. COLIN, ATTENDED PRAYERS AND BENEDICTION TO CELEBRATE THE INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY.

    PRESIDENT MOBUTU ATTENDED TE DEUM AT THE CATHEDRAL OF OUR LADY OF THE CONGO IN KINSHASA. THE CEREMONY WAS DESCRIBED AS MAJESTIC, AND WAS CONDUCTED BY THE DEAN OF KINSHASA, MONSEIGNEUR MALULA. AMONG THE CONGREGATION ALSO WERE MEMBERS OF THE CONGO-KINSHASA GOVERNMENT, MEMBERS OF THE DIPLOMATIC AND CONSULAR CORPS, CHIEFS AND NOBLEMEN. THE SERVICE CLOSED WITH PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING.

    THE CONGO BECAME INDEPENDENT ON 30 JUNE, 1960, AFTER BEING RULED BY BELGIUM FOR MORE THAN EIGHTY YEARS.
