Background: The inhabitants of Malmslatt and Linkoping in Sweden can sleep again at nights. Imagine a shout from 5,000 angry voices as you are just dropping off to sleep. That's the sort of noise the people who, live near the airport have been experiencing every time a jet plane comes in to land.
At cost of 75,000 Swedish Krowns, the Royal Swedish Airforce has just installed the new type of Jet sound absorber, already in use in Great Britain and Germany. The stationary type as used at London Airport, costs up to 2 million Krowns.
More and more airports are finding themselves in difficulties with the civil authorities of the districts in which airports are located, especially when those airports are used for flights of military, jet propelled, aircraft. The noise of jet planes has been said by medical authorities to have a severe effect on the drums of the ears.
These sound absorber go a long way towards solving what has become a difficult and trying problem.
