Yesterday the Coventry Aircraft Factory of Sir W. G. Armstrong Whitworth, Limited, hold an open day for employees families and friends. The object was to show them some of the work the firm is doing.
The employees requested the open day and 25 thousand visitors turned up. For Some it was their first chance of getting a close look at a real aeroplane. And of course there was a rush by the small boys to sit in the pilot's seat.
Father had a chance to show the family what he does all day.
Members of the family were able to see most things that go on. But the security arrangements meant that some sections had to remain closed.
The prototype of the new Argosy freighter has left the factory. But this model gave a lifelike impression of the new plane, which has involved an outlay of ten million pounds.
The first one will fly before the end of the year. The model and pictures of the Argosy were the star attractions at the open day for it's providing employment for many of the firm's workers.
