The Rt. Rev. Festo Habakkuk Olang was yesterday (Monday) enthroned as the first Archbishop of Kenya in a ceremony at the Cathedral Church of All Saints, Nairobi. Presently Kenyatta attended the ceremony.
Archbishop Olang was formerly Bishop of Maseno in Kenya's western province. The induction was performed by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Leonard Beecher, retiring Archbishop of East Africa.
Under a revision of Anglican boundaries, Kenya and Tanzania have become separate provinces within East Africa. The new Archbishop has 12 children, was educated at Oxford and is 56. He was chosen from five candidates by the Anglican Electoral College at a meeting in June.
The New Dean of Kenya, Bishop Peter Mwang'ombe of Mombasa was also installed after the ceremony.
