Background: American driver George Follmer won the fourth race in the Canadian-American Challenge Cup (Can-Am) series at the Mid-Ohio race course yesterday (August 7). Follmer, driving a turbo-charged Porsche, took his points score in the nine race series to 48, only two less than New Zealander Denis Hulme, leader of Team McLaren. For the first half of the 80 lap race, Hulme remained within ten seconds of Follmer. Then light rain began to fall. Follmer opted to stick with his ordinary tires and cut down his pace around the curves. Hulme changed tires four times, but the indecision cost him any chance of winning. Second place went to Jackie Oliver in a Shadow Three, with Milt Minter third in another Porsche, and Hulme fourth. The next race in the Cab-Am series takes place in three weeks in Wisconsin, with the five year domination of the McLarens seriously threatened by the Porsche driven to victory in this race by Follmer. this film is from NBC.
