Roman lawyer Dr. Rutilio Sermonti has turned a lifetime hobby of making models of pre-historic animals into a profitable enterprise. After forty years of devoted study in his spare time, Dr. Sermonti ha now become a prehistoric professional.
SYNOPSIS: His passion for paelonthology began when he was a child, but it developed into a fully-fledged hobby after he completed law studies. The breakthrough came when he was engaged in his favourite pastime -- visiting a museum of natural history. Dr. Sermonti noticed "gross errors" in the models of prehistoric animals on exhibition. When he pointed this out to a museum director, he received a typical Italian reactions and was invited to do better himself. The result of that challenge is obvious. Dr. Sermonti first produced sketches, then mini models and finally full sized models. Some show the Italian influence, particularly this cave woman.
Since beginning to produce models for museums, Dr. Sermonti has become accepted as a world authority in his field. Every attention is paid to detail.
He has employed five full time assistants, given up his law practice and now concentrates on things like Tyrannosaurus dentistry instead of legal loopholes.
The assistants help him mould, paint and run a "monster" beauty parlour to add those realistic touches to things like a Stegosaurus.
If the animals are furry fibreglass strands are fitted to represent body hair. Jobs like this one are "mammoth tusks."
Dr. Sermonti still casts the actual moulds himself. His current project is an open-air paleonthological museum -- to be established on the outskirts of Milan. A factory has been built to keep the prehistoric production line rolling. And the former lawyer can provide models at a much lower cost than usual.
This is possible because Dr. Sermonti can do so much him-self. He's now officially a lawyer-paleonthologist-zoologist-sculptor-painters. It all adds up to a successful business and a modelling hobby that has gone a few steps further than ships in bottles and garden gnomes.
