  • Description

MR. KHRUSHCHEV SAID IN CAIRO LAST NIGHT (WEDNESDAY) THAT IMPERIALISTS FEARED ARAB UNITY BECAUSE IT WAS EASIER FOR IMPERIALISM TO FIGHT ARAB STATES SEPARATELY.

SPEAKING IMPROMPTU AT A TRADE UNION TEA PARTY THE SOVIET LEADER ADDED: "THIS IS WHY THE IMPERIALISTS ARE STATIONED IN KUWAIT ... IMPERIALISTS GIVE BRIBES TO THE RULERS THERE SO THAT THEIR CONSCIENCES SHOULD NOT BOTHER THEM".

MR. KHRUSHCHEV SAID THE IMPERIALISTS HAD DIVIDED THE ARABS IN ORDER "TO ROB YOU ONE BY ONE". ARAB COUNTRIES WERE RICH IN NATURAL RESOURCES BUT IN FACT THEY WERE WEAK AND POOR BECAUSE OF "IMPERIALISM".

HE ALSO TOLD THE TRADE UNIONISTS THAT IF THE FORMIDABLE FORCE OF THE ARAB PEOPLES AND RUSSIA'S GREAT POWER AND ECONOMIC STRENGTH WERE COMBINED "THE TWO FORCES TOGETHER WOULD BE ABLE TO VANQUISH ANY FORCE IN EXISTENCE".

PRESIDENT NASSER, SPEAKING BEFORE MR. KHRUSHCHEV, SAID ARAB UNITY WAS NOT A RACIAL ISSUE. THE ARAB PEOPLES LIVED AS ONE NATION LINKED BY ORGANIC BONDS. THE DIVISIONS IN THE AREA WERE RECENT AND WERE MOSTLY IMPOSED BY IMPERIALISM.

IMPERIALISM RECOGNISED THE DEMAND FOR ARAB UNITY AND "BEGAN CREATING FALSE UNITY PROJECTS". BUT THE PEOPLE WERE NOT MISLED. ARAB UNITY COULD ONLY BE BUILT ON FREEDOM AND SOCIALISM.

(MR. KHRUSHCHEV VISITS ALEXANDRIA TODAY AND ON FRIDAY WILL HOLD FURTHER TALKS WITH PRESIDENT NASSER BEFORE HIS 16-DAY VISIT ENDS ON MONDAY.)
