President Bongo was accompanied to the building, situated on the Boulevard de Bord de Mer, by M. Cheikh Fal, Director General of Air Afrique, who delivered the opening speech.
An expert of international standing on transport problems in Africa, M. Fal outlined the development of the airline, and stressed its importance for West and Central Africa. Air Afrique provides international air services between the 14 member states of the Afro-Malagasy Common Organisation and other countries.
The significance of the airline's development for Gabon, where Air Afrique also maintains offices at Port-Gentil, was emphasized in a speech by the Gabonese Minister of Transport, Mr. Ondo Bonjean. After the official opening ceremony, President Bongo, M. Cheikh Fal and M. Bonjean joined the guests at a reception and cocktail party in the new building.
