  • Description

The Japanese golfer Takashi Murakami scored his first win on the Asian golf circuit on Sunday when he won the Malaysian Open by a single stroke. It was a tense and exciting finish. Sukree Onchum of Thailand had a chance to tie Murakami, but his third putt on the 18th hole stopped right at the edge of the cup.

So close was the play that three players tied for second place. Sukree Onchum has to share at 277 with Marty Bohen of the United States and New Zealander Walter Godfrey. Twenty-seven year old Murakami drove a 2-under par 70 in the find round for a 72-hole aggregate of 276. This was 12 under par for the Royal Selangor Club's difficult 6,793 yard course. Australian Graham Marsh finished fourth on 278, after one of the most closely contested games ever seen on the Asian Circuit.
