  • Description

Two thousand neo-Fascists, many carrying swastika-emblazoned 'Hitler Youth' daggers and wearing brown uniform shirts of the outlawed NAZI Party, clashed with several hundred anti-Fascists during a torch-light parade in Vienna, Austria, October 18.

Ostensibly to celebrate the bi-centenary of the death of the German poet Friedreich Schiller, the parade was organised by several extreme Right-wing groups including the banned neo-NAZI Patriotic Youth Federation.

The city authorities refused to ban the procession on the grounds of 'freedom of speech.' But the anti-NAZI parties of Vienna set to and disrupted the parade.

Squads of riot police fought with the struggling demonstrators and counter-demonstrators. Several people were injured and twenty-five arrested for wearing the banned NAZI swastika.
