  • Description

Tourists from all over Europe have been drawn to Munich, West Germany, for the city's 150th Beer Festival, which opened Sept 24, for fourteen days. The festival is sited in the Luna Park pleasure grounds, which provides a colourful background for the thousands of thirsty Germans who are expected to attend the festival.

A former Mayor of Munich, Thomas Wimmer, opened the festival by pouring himself the first glass of beer. Before he had finished his drink hundreds of pints were being swallowed by the crowd and the festival was underway.

It is expected the over 3,000,000 bottles of beer and 220,000 chickens will be consumed during the fourteen days of the festival. The event is the largest of its kind to be held in Europe since anyone can remember. Around the ground a stranger to Europe can learn many different ways of saying drink up.
