    THE SPEED MERCHANTS TOOK A HOLIDAY AT THE ISLE OF MAN TOURIST TROPHY RACES TODAY (THURSDAY) AND THE VETERANS TOOK OVER. INSTEAD OF MODERN MOTOR CYCLES ZOOMING AROUND THE ISLAND'S CIRCUIT AT MORE THAN 100 M.P.H., ANCIENT MACHINES FORM THE VINTAGE MOTOR CYCLE CLUB TOOK PART IN THE ANNUAL VETERANS' RALLY.

    ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY MACHINES - BUILT BETWEEN 1905 AND 1931 - WERE PUT THROUGH THEIR FACES AND BROUGHT BACK MANY A NOSTALGIC TEAR TO THE EYES OF MOTOR CYCLE ENTHUSIASTS PRESENT. THE CYCLES WERE PUT INTO FOUR CLASSES, DEPENDING BETWEEN WHAT DATES THEY WERE BUILT. THERE WERE ONLY II CYCLES ON DISPLAY FROM CLASS ONE, REPRESENTING MACHINES BUILT BETWEEN 1905 AND 1914. MANY OF THE VETERANS WERE T.T. RIDERS IN THEIR PRIME BUT TOOK THINGS AT A FAR MORE LEISURELY PACE TODAY.
