  • Description

A brotherly link between two Protestant churches -- one British, one German, -- was formally celebrated in Hamburg, Germany, on Feb. 2nd, when the Provost of Coventry Cathedral, the Rev. Harold Williams, presented to Dr. Hartmut Sierig of Hamburg's Katharinenkirche a cross made from iron nails.

The famous Gothic Katharinenkirche - like Coventry Cathedral - was bombed during the war, but unlike the Cathedral, was not destroyed. The nails for the cross came from the beams of the Cathedral which were burnt during the bombing. The two churches which both suffered the same fate in war and which have now given this pledge of peace were first brought together through a visit to Coventry by the Katarinenkirche choir.
