Background: Premier Harold Macmillan opened the 'VC Room' at the home of the Royal Society of St. George in Upper Belgravia Street, London, July 10. A simple ceremony yet a fine tribute to the men and women who are privileged to have the initials 'VC' after their names.

This will be the club room for holders of the Victoria Cross, an unostentatious bronze medal that takes a lot of winning.

Among those at the club room were Sgt. Bill Speakman, one of the last men to win the VC - his was awarded for bravery in Korea - and Odette Hallowes G.C. formerly Mrs Peter Churchill, an agent in wartime France.

The club room will be shared with George Cross holders.

After the opening those present went to the House of Commons for a luncheon party.
