    President Leopold Senghor of Senegal had talks with Sudanese President, General Jaafir al-Nemery, in Khartoum on Thursday (29 April), following his visits to Rumania and Iran.

    According to Reuters, President Senghor and al-Nemery discussed issues of mutual interest between their two countries. President Senghor made a state visit to the Sudan last November.

    President Senghor was on the final leg of his tour that began with a state visit to Rumania where he had talks with the Rumanian President, Mr. Nicolae Ceausescu. During his stay, President Senghor signed a trade, technical, scientific and cultural co-operation agreement with Rumania. The countries also agreed to strengthen political links.

    From Rumania, President Senghor flew to Iran for a five day state visit that included talks with the Shah of Iran and Iranian Government leaders. According to Reuters relations between Iran and Senegal have been strengthened by frequent high-level exchanges of visits.

    During his stay, President Senghor and the Iranian Government agreed a multi-million pound deal for joint ventures in Senegal. The projects include an oil refinery, a fertiliser plant and a plan for developing phosphate mines in the African state.
