Background: Rumanian tennis champion Ilie Nastase is taking a short break from tennis, although he is barely two weeks away from one of the world's richest tennis tournaments. Nastase is settling into his new role as a father.
His wife, Dominique, gave birth to their first child-a baby girl-in a fashionable Paris hospital on Wednesday (12 March).
Nastase said he was pleased that the baby arrived on schedule, otherwise he would have missed the American Airline Second Annual Tennis Games in Tucson, Arizona from 31 March. The prize money is worth 73,000 pounds sterling (about 168,000 US dollars).
Nastase's first child is named Nathalie after his sister-in-law who will also be the baby's godmother when she is baptised in June.
