COMMENTATOR: "This Vishwanath four brings up India's 200. Leaning back four runs anyway. But after taking the total to 210, the 133 partnership came to an end. A chance caught beautifully by Simpson. What a catch. With his partner gone, Mohinder Amarnath hit out. In through the offside, a beautiful stroke there. Amarnath didn't even brother to move that time.

"But Amarnath was out soon after that to become Yardley's second wicket of the innings. Now that's in the air. Fieldsman getting underneath it. Callen, can he take the catch, he has and Amarnath is out. India's 400 came up with this shot by Kirmani. And he repeats the dose again. And Wood takes it and I think he may get to it although the ball is going pretty fast (indistinct) about 15 metres inside and back they go to complete three runs. And the tourists were left with 93 runs to get and three wickets in hand. The new ball was then taken and Callen was to make the vital breakthrough. And caught. Yes, he is out. Ghavri out for 23. Seventy three runs needed to win.

"Kirmani was bowled next by a Clark yorker for 51. Bowled him. And at Lunch, India 58 runs behind. After the break, Callen strikes again. And caught, caught by Cosier at second slip and Bedi is out. Callen picks up his third wicket. Bobby Simpson's 42nd birthday present came when he claimed the final Indian wicket, that of Chandra, and Australia win the test series, three matches to two."

Background: Australia clinched the Test cricket series against India 3-2 on Friday (3 February) after a tense finish to the Fifth Test at the Adelaide Oval. Fittingly, it was the Australian captain Bob Simpson, back from a 10-year break and celebrating his 42nd birthday, who took the final wicket to wrap it up and give Australia the match by 47 runs. Simpson trapped Bhagwat Chandrasekhar leg before wicket to finish the Indian innings. Here is a report on the final day's play from the Australian Broadcasting Commission.
