Background: King Faisal of Saudi Arabia arrived in Rabat, Morocco, on Wednesday (June 6) for a two-day visit. The King, who had flown in from Geneva, was greeted at the airport by King Hassan II. He will visit Algeria and Tunisia later.

A programme of his visit has not been published, but it is believed that the two leaders will discuss the situation in the Middle East. The United Nations started the first full review of the Middle East situation since 1967 on Wednesday. King Hassan has sent UN Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim a telegram urging him to see that Israel gives up territory occupied during the 1967 conflict.

Saudi Arabia has recently embarked on an energetic policy of loans and assistance to African countries.

SYNOPSIS: King Faisal of Saudi Arabia arrived in Rabat, Morocco, on Wednesday. King Hassan was at the airport to greet him.

King Faisal had previously been in Geneva. Although no official programme for the two-day visit has been published, it is believed that he and King Hassan will discuss the Middle East situation. The United Nations started its first full review of the Middle East situation since 1967 on Wednesday, and King Hassan has sent a telegram to Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim urging him to ensure that Israel gives up territory occupied since the 1967 conflict.

King Faisal will later visit Algeria and Tunisia, and there have been undenied reports that he will see Pope Paul in Rome.

Saudi Arabia has recently embarked on an energetic programme of re-equipping her armed forces and fostering friendly relations with African countries. Last November King Faisal made an African tour. Saudi loans have contributed to some African countries breaking off relations with Israel. Unlike Morocco, however, Saudi Arabia has shown no great interest in putting pressure on Israel to yield territories taken in 1967.
