    SOUTH WEST AFRICA'S FUTURE IS THE MAIN DISCUSSION THIS WEEK WHEN UNITED NATIONS SPECIALLY APPOINTED DELEGATES MEET SOUTH AFRICA'S PRIME MINISTER DR. VERWOERD IN PRETORIA. THEY ARRIVED BY AIR MAY 5 - DR. VITORIO CARPIO OF THE PHILIPPINES AND DR. SALVADOR MARTINEZ DE ALVAZ OF MEXICO.

    THIS WILL BE THE SECOND TIME IN LITTLE MORE THAN A YEAR THAT THE PRIME MINISTER WILL DISCUSS THE MANDATED TERRITORY DIRECTLY WITH U.N. REPRESENTATIVES. THE FIRST WAS IN JANUARY LAST YEAR WHEN MR. DAG HAMMARSKJOLD VISITED THE COUNTRY.

    THE TALKS - WITH GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS FIRST - WILL BEGIN THERE MAY 7. DR. CARPIO SAID HE WOULD LIKE TO VISIT SOUTH WEST AFRICA WHILE IN THESE PARTS. THE VISIT, LIKELY TO LAST AT LEAST A WEEK, FOLLOWS AN INSTRUCTION BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO ENTER THE TERRITORY FOR FIRST-HAND INVESTIGATION.

    DR. CARPIO AND DR. DE ALVA WERE MET BY MR. G.P. JOOSTE, SECRETARY FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND MR. BRAND FOURIE, SOUTH AFRICA'S PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE AT UNITED NATIONS.
