THE ROUTE IS ALONG HIGHWAY 14, ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS IN VIETNAM. FOR MANY YEARS THE ROAD WAS CLOSED BECAUSE OF THE HARD ATTACKS BY VIETCONG AND NORTH VIETNAMESE ARMY UNITS, BUT IN RECENT MONTHS AN INCREASING AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC HAS BEEN MOVING ALONG THE ROAD.

THE STARTING POINT FOR THE CONVOYS IS QUI NHON, A COASTAL PORT CITY WHICH IS GUARDED BY THE KOREAN TIGER DIVISION TO WHICH MANY OF THE LORRY DRIVERS ONCE BELONGED.

THE VEHICLES, ALL CIVILIAN LORRIES, ARE MOSTLY OF JAPANESE MAKE. ONLY CIVILIAN EMPLOYEES OF THE COMPANY, ALL OF THEM KOREAN, ARE ALLOWED TO RIDE ON THE VEHICLES.
