INTRODUCTION: Soccer....and in the African Cup Winners' Cup Liberte of Niamey, the capital of Niger, tried to take a lead in the first leg at home against Kadiogo of Ouagadougou, Upper Volta.
SYNOPSIS: Liberte, the home side in the striped shirts, started the match, but it was clear from the beginning that Kadiogo did not just intend to defend, and were going to try to give as good as they got.
Adovi put Liberte ahead after 25 minutes but four minutes later Kadiogo's aggressive tactics paid off and they were level again after Traore and Kabore had combined to make an easy chance for Kouliga.
Liberte restarted but Kadiogo's quick reply had taken the momentum out of their attacks -- and the crowd was also subdued by the away side's quick reply.
In the second half Liberte -- now playing from left to right -- tried to attack but their passes lacked precision and usually caused the Kadiogo defence little trouble.
In fact the best chance of the match fell to Kadiogo and would have given them a lead from the away leg had not one of their forwards displayed his over eagerness.
This long shot was one of Liberte's best attempts but the score remained at one-all and Kadiogo return to Ouagadougou confident of winning the return match on February 27.
