    PAPANDREOU: I HAVE BEEN TREATED VERY WELL INDEED. WE EAT WELL, WE SLEEP WELL AND WE HAVE, THROUGH THE GUARD, CONTACT WITH OUR HOME SO FAR AS CLOTHING IS CONCERNED AND LAUNDRY AND FACILITIES OF THIS KIND.

ANDREAS PAPANDREOU, SON OF THE AILING FORMER PRIME MINISTER WHO IS UNDER GUARD IN HOSPITAL, WAS ALLOWED TO BE INTERVIEWED.

    GENERAL SPANDIDAKIS, WHO IS ALSO MINISTER OF DEFENCE SAID THE NEW MILITARY JUNTA WILL NOT IMPOSE DICTATORSHIP. HE ALSO SAID THEY WILL HAND THE GOVERNMENT BACK TO THE PEOPLE -- AFTER THEY HAVE PUT THE COUNTRY ON THE ROAD TO DEMOCRACY.

    THE COUP HAD BEEN PLANNED, HE SAID, BECAUSE ARMY OFFICERS BELIEVED THAT COMMUNISM HAD INFILTRATED THE NATION AND WAS TRYING TO INFILTRATE THE ARMED FORCES.

    BECAUSE OF THIS, HE SAID, THEY THOUGHT THE ARMY HAD A DUTY TO INTERFERE.

    JOURNALISTS WERE INVITED TODAY TO INTERVIEW MR. GEORGE PAPANDREOU, THE 82-YEAR-OLD FORMER PRIME MINISTER WHO IS UNDER DETENTION IN AN ATHENS HOSPITAL.

    THEY WERE ALSO ALLOWED TO INTERVIEW HIS SON, ANDREAS, WHO IS ALSO UNDER DETENTION.

    TODAY'S MEETING OF THE NEW CABINET WAS HELD AT THE ROYAL PALACE, THE HOME OF KING CONSTANTINE. YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) THE NEW RULERS SAID THAT HE HAD NOT BEEN AWARE OF THEIR INTENTION TO STAGE A COUP.
