    KENYA'S PARLIAMENTARY OPPOSITION LEADER, MR ODINGA, YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY) DENIED ALLEGATIONS MADE IN PARLIAMENT THAT HE HAD BEEN TO KAMPALA AT THE WEEKEND TO COLLECT FUNDS FROM A FOREIGN MISSION FOR HIS KENYA' PEOPLE'S UNION PARTY.

    THE ALLEGATIONS WERE MADE ON TUESDAY BY MR DANIEL MOI, MINISTER FOR HOME AFFAIRS. HE SAID MR ODINGA HAD VISITED UGANDA UNDER AN ASSUMED NAME AND THAT WHEN STOPPED BY GUARDS AT THE BORDER ON HIS RETURN, HAD DRUNK THREE-QUARTERS OF A BOTTLE OF WHISKY AND STRIPPED OFF MOST OF HIS CLOTHES.

    MR ODINGA'S REPLY WAS THAT THE NAME HE HAD USED WAS ONE HE COULD, AND FREQUENTLY DID, USE QUITE LEGALLY. HIS ACCOUNT OF THE BORDER INCIDENT WAS THAT THE GUARDS HAD THREATENED FORCE IF HE DID NOT SUBMIT TO A SEARCH.

    MR ODINGA SAID HE WAS IN KAMPALA TO DISCUSS WITH LAWYERS THE DETENTION IN KENYA OF NINE OF HIS PARTY'S SUPPORTERS. HE DESCRIBED THE ALLEGATIONS AS A COMPLETE FABRICATION ...
