  • Description

At the famed Indianapolis Speedway, new marks are anticipated after last year's record-shattering 500 mile race when eleven men beat a 130 mile an hour figure and set a safety record. No accidents -- not even a tire failure. This year, Dick Rathman has pole position after his qualifying run of 145.9 miles an hour, another first. The brick and asphalt oval two-and-a-half miles in length is carrying the 42nd running of America's top auto event. The best in men, racing cars and rubber are computing to top record-holder Sam Hank/s average of 135.6 miles an hour for the entire 500 mile course.

Each year the pace steps up and this race is expected to be the fastest ever run. Explosive speeds and super driving are the order of the day as the very limits of human and mechanical endurance are put to the test. The winner at Indianapolis takes home a first cash prize of approximately one hundred thousand dollars.
