  • Description

Film of the uneventful enrollment of Negro student Dave McGlatehry at the University of Alabama's Huntsville Branch.

McGlathery was the third Negro to enroll at the University after Governor George Wallace was forced to yield and permit the university to be enrolled when he was faced with Federal troops ordered to enforce a court ruling.

Wallace at first barred the paths of two Negroes, Vivian Malone and James Hood at the main campus in Tuscaloosa on 11 June. When he backed down there, he also said he would not try to prevent McGlathery fro enrolling on 13 June.

McGlathery, 27, a mathematician with the U.S. Space agency at the Huntsville rocket center, is taking advanced mathematics courses.

Film shows his uneventful arrival and entry to register, his statement afterward and then he leaves the registry hall. The short piece of film shows him in class with the other all-white students.
