  • Description

DAY AND EVENING WEAR DISPLAYED YESTERDAY (SATURDAY) IN ROME SHOWED DEFINITE SIGNS OF SPACE AGE INFLUENCE.

WOOL FABRICS WERE WELL TO THE FORE, AND SHADES OF BLUE WERE MUCH IN EVIDENCE. INTEREST CENTRED ON UNUSUAL NECKLINES, EMBROIDERY AND THE USE OF METAL ADORNMENTS.

AMONG NOVEL IDEAS FOR NECKLINES WERE A "SPACEMAN SUIT COLLAR" AND A "CRATER COLLAR". OTHER SPACE-FLIGHT TOUCHES WERE HELMET HATS, ONE WITH AN "ANTENNAE ORNAMENT".

METAL WAS USED NOT ONLY IN BELT BUCKLES BUT ALSO IN THE SHAPE OF PLATES AND PLAQUES. THE EMBROIDERY THEME COULD BE SEEN ROUND HEMLINES AND NECKLINES.
