Background: Dr. H. Kissinger arrived in Riyadh on Saturday March 2nd 1974 for talks with Saudi officials.
He was received at the airport by Mr. Omar Sakkaf, Saudi Minister of State for foreign affairs and other Saudi officials. The American embassador to Saudi Arabia was also there to welcome the American Foreign Minister.
In a press conference at the airport Mr. Sakkaf welcomed Dr. Kissinger and praised the close Saudi American relations. He also praised the efforts directed by President Nixon and executed by Dr. Kissinger for achieving a first and lasting peace in the Middle East.
In reply Dr. Kissinger said he was glad to visit Saudi Arabia and have an audience with his Majesty King Faisal.
"I will", added Kissinger, "Submit to his majesty a report about my latest trip in the area. We have achieved some success" Kissinger continued, "toward a dis-engagement on the Syrian Front similar to the success achieved on the Egyptian front. We consider this to be only the first step toward a lasting and first peace in the Middle East.
Dr. Kissinger had an audience with. His majesty. He also held talks with Prince Fahad, second deputy Premier and with Mr. sakkaf.
Lather in the afternoon Dr. Kissinger left Riyadh. He was seen off at the airport by Mr. Sakkaf and other Saudi officials.
