  • Description

Amsterdam was the scene today (Saturday) of another march of protest against the conflict in Vietnam, and U.S. policy there.

About 20,000 people turned out to join in the march, and badly disrupted Amsterdam's weekend traffic. The demonstrators walked quietly through city streets, and there were no incidents. Mounted police kept watch on the procession, which included posters calling for freedom in Vietnam and demanding that the United States withdraw its forces.

But one of the organisers of the March decided at the last minute not to take part. He was Rabbi Spetendorp, a leader of the Dutch Jewish community, who decided to stay away in protest against the withdrawal of United Nations forces from the Israel - Egyptian border.
