The Black Stars, playing on their home ground at Kumasi, were competing in their first leg match.
After a scoreless first half there was an atmosphere of grim suspense. It wasn't until the 59th minute that 'goal-king' Dan Owusu broke the deadlock with a conversion after a penalty awarded when Ghana's number ten player Ahmed Polo was brought down heavily in the Moroccan penalty area. Polo was carried off injured.
The visiting team's defence were well-knit though, and the battle continued without result until a few minutes inside injury time when substitute Joe Sam scored Ghana's second goal.
The return match between the two teams is set for July 13th in Morocco. the winning team on aggregate qualifies for the final scheduled for addis ababa, the ethiopian capital, next march.
