Background: Hundreds of people responded to a call from film star Brigitte Bardot on Friday, and demonstrated outside the Norwegian Embassy in Paris against the mass killing of baby seals. Most of the demonstrators were members of the French society for the protection of Animals. The demonstrators chanted slogans at the Embassy, such as "Norwegian murderers" and "Arrest the seal killers". Norwegians, Danes and Canadians are leading participants in the annual cull of baby seals in the Arctic. The Hunters club the tiny seals to death, and skin them for their pelts which are made up into fur coats for rich women. The crowd surged around Miss Bardot when she joined the demonstration, and the police found it almost impossible to hold them back. Miss Bardot had called for the demonstration in a lunch time television address after launching her own wildlife protection Foundation. During the demonstration she was allowed into the Embassy to explain the reasons for the demonstration. She later told reporters that the campaign was the most important thing in the life.
