    NORTH VIETNAMESE AND VIETCONG TROOPS ATTACKED 159 TARGETS IN SOUTH VIETNAM DURING THE NIGHT OF MAY 11TH TO 12TH. SIX PEOPLE WERE KILLED WHEN A 122 MM ROCKET EXPLODED NEAR THE WATER-FRONT IN SAIGON.

    THE EXPLOSION DESTROYED THREE HOUSES AND FOUR SAMPANS NEAR THE BEN VAN DON QUAY. A BRIDGE WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED IN THE HEAVILY POPULATED AREA, AND BESIDES THE SIX KILLED, THERE WERE ANOTHER EIGHT SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE ROCKET EXPLODED AT 3 O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING WHEN FEW PEOPLE WERE IN THE STREETS.

    AN AMERICAN SPOKESMAN SAID AFTER THE NIGHT OF ATTACKS THAT HE THOUGHT IT HAD BEEN THE HEAVIEST CONCENTRATION OF ROCKET AND BOMB ATTACKS SINCE THE WAR STARTED, BUT IT IS NOT THOUGHT THAT IT HERALDS AN OFFENSIVE ON THE SCALE OF THE TET OFFENSIVE LAST YEAR. ALTOGETHER ABOUT 50 CIVILIANS WERE KILLED IN THE SERIES OF ATTACKS ON TOWNS AND VILLAGES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY.
