Background: Visnews filmed (1) Communist procession through the streets of Trivandrum on June 24, during Mr.Nerhu's visit there to discuss the recent mass movement to oust the government of Kerala, India's lone Communist-governed state. (2) Anti-government demonstrators who lined the route to the airport at Trivandrum as Mr. Nerhu drove past to leave Kerala on June 25 for New Delhi. (3) The renewal of demonstrations against the government on June 25, when pickets assembled again outside the Collectorate Building in Trivandrum, holding Congress Party flags.
Many of the demonstrators in the Communist procession were Communists of the All India Trade Union Congress, whose banner they bore, together with flags showing the hammer and sickle. Both men and women took part in the procession.
Some of the anti-government pickets outside the Collectorate Building were led away by the police, and newspaper reports say that many arrests - connoted with the present disturbance - were being made throughout the state each day, leading to overcrowding in the prisons.
