    The increasing influence of Zaire in African affairs was emphasised at the Congress of the country's Revolutionary Movement Party, attended this week by heads of state of other major African Countries.

    The ceremonies, marking the fifth anniversary of the ruling party, included a special anniversary parade and a symbolic unveiling to a statue depicting a party member.

    They were followed by the first congress of the party, attended by more than 1,300 delegates.

    The visiting African leaders were greeted at the anniversary parade by Zaire's Minister of the Interior, Mr. Bulndwe.

    They included President Ould Daddah of Mauritania, President Tombalbaye, of Chad, President Kaund a of Zambia, Vice-President Kawawa of Tanzania, President Eyadema, of Togo, and President Lamizana of Upper Volta.

    Highlight of the parade was a march past of Zaire forces, in Kinshasa's Square of 27 October, which followed the arrival of President Mobutu Sese-Seko.

    The visiting leaders also saw President Mobutu perform the unveiling ceremony before attending the congress.
