Background: The 36 delegates to the World Federation of War Veterans Congress, in Athens, visited the historic site of the battle of Marathon, as guests of the Greek Confederation of War Victim and Invalids, September 28.

The delegates saw the plains of Marathon, where nearly 25 centuries ago 10,000 Athenians and Plataeans defeated 110,000 Persians and from which the famous long-distance race takes its name.

They saw a plaque by the Tomb of the Marathon Warriors detailing the history of the battle and for lighter entertainment local village girls, dressed in national costume, gave dancing displays.
