  • Description

BRITAIN TODAY (SATURDAY) CLINCHED THE 1965 "LITTLE AMERICA'S CUP" SERIES OF CATAMARAN RACES AT THORPE BAY IN ESSEX WHEN "EMMA HAMILTON" WON A CRUCIAL RACE IN CHOPPY CONDITIONS. THE AUSTRALIAN CATAMARAN, "QUEST 11", TOOK THE LEAD EARLY BUT HAD ITS HOPES SHATTERED WHEN IT CAPSIZED AFTER IT BROKE ITS RUDDER.

CONDITIONS AT THORPE BAR WERE DIFFICULT WHEN THE CREWS ARRIVED THIS MORNING. AFTER HIGH WINDS OVERNIGHT, CHOPPY SEAS THREATENED TO SWAMP THE BOATS. IT WAS THE WEATHER, RATHER THAN THE "EMMA HAMILTON", WHICH LOST AUSTRALIA THE RACE - AND THE SERIES.
