    TRAFFIC JAMS CLOGGED THE STREETS OF PARIS TODAY (WED) AS THE TRANSPORT STRIKE CONTINUED TO DISRUPT TRAIN, BUS AND PLANE SERVICES.

    THE PARIS METRO (UNDERGROUND RAILWAY) WAS VIRTUALLY PARALYSED, AND WILDCAT STRIKES CUT BUS SERVICES. THE COUNTRY'S DOMESTIC AIRLINE, AIR INTER, WAS STOPPED BY STRIKE OF GROUND STAFF. AND MOST INTER-CITY TRAINS WERE STOPPED.

    LINES OF CARS FOUR TO EIGHT MILES LONG( SIX TO 12 KLMS) BUILT UP ON THE MAIN ROADS INTO PARIS. IN THE CITY ITSELF, THOUSANDS WALKED TO WORK.

    THE WORSENING CONDITION OF THE CAPITAL'S TRANSPORT REFLECTED THE MILITANT ATTITUDES OF RANK AND FILE UNION MEMBERS WHO HAVE DEMANDS FOR BETTER WORKING CONDITIONS AND MORE TIME OFF.

    THE THREAT OF WIDESPREAD INDUSTRIAL STRIFE HANGS OVER FRANCE, DESPITE THE PRIME MINISTER, M. CHAVAN-DELMAS, STAKING THE LIFE OF HIS THREE-MONTH-OLD GOVERNMENT ON THE SUCCESS OF PROMISSED SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC MEASURES.

    TODAY (WED.) PRESIDENT POMPIDOU ISSUED A WARNING THAT HIS GOVERNMENT WOULD DO EVERYTHING NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN LAW AND ORDER DURING THE PRESENT UNREST.
