    A mass meeting in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanganyika, Sept 4, attended by an estimated 30,000 Africans, was addressed by African leader Julius Nyerere, sworn in as Tanganyika's first African an overwhelming victory in the territory's recent elections.

    With Nyerere were members of his new Government - already nominated but not due to be appointed until Oct 1 - and British MP John Stonehouse, who is on his way to the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, where he will try to gain entry although he has been declared an illegal immigrant by the Federation.

    Nyerere has said he will ask Britain and the United Nations to end their trusteeship of Tanganyika and fix a date for independence early next year. Nyerere's Cabinet of 12 includes 4 Europeans and one Asian.
