  • Description

Thousands of Hectares (acres) of some of New Zealand's best pasture-land have been flooded, and three thousand people evacuated following the worst floods in the country's southern provinces for several decades. No human lives were reported lost but sheep losses in the prime meat and wool producing districts were expected to be high. Downpours brought by a large sub-antarctic depression caused flash-floods, and several emergencies were declared by local authorities. Bernie Griffin and George Burke of Television Service Two in New Zealand report.
