  • Description

A FOUR-ENGINED TURBO-PROP VISCOUNT AIRLINER MADE A SPECTACULAR CRASH LANDING AT SYDNEY AIRPORT ON THURSDAY. THE PILOT MADE A BRILLIANT JOB OF LANDING THE AIRCRAFT WITH ITS NOSE WHEEL RETRACTED AND JAMMED.

THE AIRCRAFT HAD TAKEN OFF ON A ROUTINE FLIGHT FROM CANBERRA. WHEN THE FAULT IN THE NOSE WHEEL WAS DISCOVERED, THE CAPTAIN, CAPTAIN PURNELL, CIRCLED SYDNEY FOR THREE HOURS TRYING TO FREE THE WHEEL AND THEN DUMPED FUEL IN PREPARATION FOR AN EMERGENCY LANDING.

THERE WERE 27 PASSENGERS AND CREW ON BOARD THE AIRCRAFT, BUT NONE WERE HURT IN THE LANDING.

CAPTAIN PURNELL TOUCHED THE VISCOUNT DOWN ON TWO WHEELS AND THEN IT TIPPED FORWARD ONTO ITS NOSE AND SKATED ALONG THE RUNWAY IN A SHOWER OF SPARKS.
