THE COLLECTION BELONGS TO THE QUEEN, AND WAS FOUNDED BY HER GRANDFATHER, KING GEORGE THE FIFTH. SOME OF THE STAMPS ON DISPLAY HAVE NEVER BEFORE BEEN VIEWED BY THE PUBLIC. IN ADDITION, THERE ARE EXAMPLES OF ENGRAVED ENVELOPED FROM THE EARLY DAYS OF THE BRITISH POST SERVICE, LETTERS IN ROYAL HANDWRITING, PAINTINGS AND PICTURES OF ROYAL CHRISTENINGS, MARRIAGES AND EVENTS OF VICTORIAN TIMES.

ONE OF THE MOST INTERESTING STAMPS ON DISPLAY IS THE "TWOPENNY TYRIAN PLUM" OF THE SIXTH OF MAY, 1910. THE STAMP WAS DUE FOR ISSUE ON THIS DATE AS AN EDWARDIAN STAMP.

KING EDWARD DIED ON THIS VERY DAY, AND THE STAMP WAS NEVER PUT INTO CIRCULATION. HOWEVER, ONE STAMP WAS OBTAINED EARLIER FROM THE POST OFFICE AND SENT TO THE THEN PRICE OF WALES, AT MARLBOROUGH HOUSE.

WHEN IT ARRIVED, THE PRINCE OF WALES WAS KING - KING GEORGE THE FIFTH, AND HE THUS OBTAINED AN UNIQUE STAMP THAT WENT THROUGH THE POSTAL SYSTEM, ALTHOUGH IT WAS NEVER OFFICIALLY ISSUED.
