  • Description

LORD CARRINGTON, BRITISH DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER AND MINISTER OF STATE WITHOUT PORTFOLIO, ARRIVED IN KUALA LUMPUR ON APRIL 9 FOR INFORMAL TALKS WITH TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN, THE MALAYSIAN PRIME MINISTER.

LORD CARRINGTON, WHO IS ON HIS WAY TO MANILA TO LEAD THE BRITISH DELEGATION TO THE SOUTHEAST ASIA TREATY ORGANISATION'S MINISTERIAL COUNCIL, WAS MET AT THE AIRPORT BY LORD HEAD, BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER TO MALAYSIA.

SPEAKING TO REPORTERS AT THE AIRPORT, LORD CARRINGTON SAID IT WAS HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT THE MATTER OF INDONESIA'S HOSTILITY TOWARDS MALAYSIA WOULD BE RAISED OFFICIALLY AT THE SEATO MEETING -- BECAUSE NEITHER MALAYSIA NOR INDONESIA ARE MEMBERS.

ON MALAYSIA'S FUTURE IN THE LIGHT OF COMMUNIST AGGRESSION IN SOUTH EAST ASIA, LORD CARRINGTON SAID SEATO IS DESIGNED TO PREVENT COMMUNIST AGGRESSION IN THE REGION. MALAYSIA ALSO HAS A DEFENCE PACT WITH BRITAIN.
